The mainstay of beautiful gardens around the world, the tulip isa perennial buld plant, belongingto the lily family. It originted in central Asia and moved towards the west during the Ottoman empire, when it was first cultivated as a garden perennial. It was the subject of economic speculation during the "tulip mania" of the mid-1600s. The center of tulip propagation is the Netherlands, where it's possible to see stunning displays of color during the spring booming season.
